At San Francisco:
Alex Smith threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday---one each to Vernon Davis, Josh Morgan, and Brian Westbrook---as the San Francisco 49ers (5-8) throttled the visiting Seattle Seahawks (6-7) 40-21.
The win, coupled with New Orleans' 31-13 triumph at home over St. Louis, enabled the Niners to close within one game of the NFC West Division lead (shared by the Rams and Seahawks) with three games remaining on their regular-season schedule.
The 49ers will now head to San Diego for a nationally-televised contest with the Chargers.
