It became official on Sunday night soon after the San Francisco 49ers returned home after their road loss at St. Louis.
His team had underperformed badly this season, a season in which many thought the Niners would reign supreme in the NFC's Worst----uuuuhhhh----West Division.
Defensive line coach Jim Tomsula will coach the 49ers' season finale next Sunday at home against Arizona.
Just twelve hours ago, this looked this might be the game in which the Niners would win the division. Instead, they would have to win or tie the game to avoid finishing in the basement.
That argument Samurai Mike had with quarterback Troy Smith that was caught on camera didn't help matters, either.
Counting what would almost certainly be the one-game reign of the interim coach, the 49ers have made four coaching changes since their last winning---and playoff---season (2002) and seemed to change offensive coordinators yearly. In fact, following their debacle at Kansas City, the Niners changed O-coordinators.
But then again, this is a front office that has looked like it had been run in recent years by Beavis and Butt-Head.
In the end, Samurai Mike was in over his head.
