Stanley Cup Playoffs: Habs and Sabres Stay Alive; Wings and Canucks Take 3-2 Leads

Four games dotted the Stanley Cup Playoff schedule on Friday.

EASTERN CONFERENCE:

At Washington:

Mike Cammalleri and Travis Moen each scored a goal in the first period and Jaroslav Halak stopped 37 of 38 shots as the Montreal Canadians staved off elimination from their conference quarterfinal series with a 2-1 game-five road win over the Washington Capitals.  The Habs now trail their series three games to two.

At Buffalo:

Ryan Miller stopped 34 of 35 shots while Adam Mair, Jason Pominville, Mike Grier, and Johnny Boychuk (PP) each tallied once as the Buffalo Sabres overpowered the visiting Boston Bruins 4-1 in game five to stay in the series, cutting the Bruins' advantage to three games to two.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:


At Glendale, Arizona:


Jimmy Howard made 30 saves on 31 shots while Tomas Holmstrom, Pavel Datsyuk, and Henrik Zetterberg each tallied once during a three-goal third period as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on the road in game five to take a three-games-to-two lead in their best-of-seven first-round series.


At Vancouver, British Columbia:


Steve Bernier and Mikael Samuelsson each scored twice as the Vancouver Canucks smothered the visiting Los Angeles Kings 7-2 in game five to take a three-games-to-two advantage in their opening-round series.
