The Stanley Cup Playoffs got under way Wednesday night.
EASTERN CONFERENCE:
At Newark, New Jersey:
Brian Boucher stopped 23 of 24 shots while Mike Richards and Chris Pronger each tallied once as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in game one of their conference quarterfinal-round series.
At Pittsburgh:
Erik Karlsson and Chris Kelly each scored a second-period power play goal as the Ottawa Senators took game one of their opening-round playoff series on the road, 5-4 over the Pittsburgh Penguins.
WESTERN CONFERENCE:
At Glendale, Arizona:
In their first playoff game since 2002, and their first ever at Jobing.com arena, the Phoenix Coyotes took the opening game of their series with the Detroit Red Wings 3-2. Derek Morris had a hand in all of the Coyotes' goals----all on power plays---scoring the game winner in the third period while assisting on the other two.
At San Jose, California:
Chris Stewart scored the game winner with 50 seconds remaining as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the San Jose Sharks 2-1 on the road in the series opener between the clubs.
