At Washington:
In a Saturday Major League Soccer contest that saw its' opening kickoff delayed by an hour due to excessive heat in the nation's capital, Steve Birnbaum (7') and Luciano Acosta (29') each produced a goal as DC United blanked the visiting Portland Timbers 2-0.
The win snapped the hosts' six-match winless streak while the guests are still looking for their first league road win of 2016.
The Timbers will travel to Seattle for a nationally-televised Cascadia Cup clash against the Sounders, set for next Sunday evening at 6:30 PM (Fox Sports 1).
