Timbers Gain Draw With SKC, Draw Closer To Playoff Berth

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Goals from Sebastian Blanco (29') and Dairon Asprilla (PK-85') enabled the Portland Timbers to gain a 2-2 Major League Soccer Sunday road draw with Sporting Kansas City.

Krysztian Nemeth (30') and Daniel Salloi (46') provided the goals for the hosts.

The Timbers were reduced to ten men after Brian Fernandez was ejected via a straight red card in the 35th minute.

Sporting KC were reduced to nine men after Roger Espinoza (40'; he set an MLS career record with his 11th red card) and Ilie Sanchez (85') were ejected via red cards.

The Timbers can lock up a playoff berth next Sunday with a home win or draw against the San Jose Earthquakes at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest; ESPN+).

Timbers Overcome SKC In Critical MLS Contest

At Portland, Oregon:

Goals from Jeremy Ebobisse (83') and Brian Fernandez (90'+4) lifted the Portland Timbers to a 2-1 come-from-behind Major League Soccer home victory over Sporting Kansas City.

Benny Feilhaber scored for the guests in the 65th minute.

The Timbers will play host to DC United next Sunday at 12:30 PM Pacific Time (ESPN).

Diego Rubio, SKC Ambush Timbers In Kansas

At Kansas City, Kansas:

In Saturday Major League Soccer action, Diego Rubio scored twice (28', 37') and Johnny Russell once (89') as Sporting Kansas City whitewashed the visiting Portland Timbers 3-0, handing the guests their third straight defeat following their franchise record-tying 15-match unbeaten run.

The Timbers will host the rejuvenated Seattle Sounders in a Cascadia Cup clash next Sunday at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (Fox Sports One).

TImbers And SKC Battle To Scoreless Stalemate In The Rose City

At Portland, Oregon:

The Portland Timbers stretched their unbeaten run in Major League Soccer play to eight games (nine in all competitions) on Saturday night with a 0-0 home stalemate with Sporting Kansas City.

Timbers' goalkeeper Jeff Attinella produced Portland's fourth  shutout of the season with four saves.

Portland will host the Los Angeles Galaxy in US Open Cup Round of 16 play at 7:30 PM Pacific Time this coming Friday.

The Timbers' next MLS match is on the road against Atlanta United at 1:30 PM Pacific Time on Sunday, June 24 (FOX).

Timbers Settle For 1-1 Road Draw With Sporting KC

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Daniel Salloi's equalizer in the 60th minute on Saturday lifted Sporting Kansas City to a 1-1 Major League Soccer home draw with the Portland Timbers.

Sporting stretched their home unbeaten streak to a club-record 18 games.

Diego Valeri scored for the Timbers in the 26th minute, only to see his penalty kick in the 74th minute, which would be put Portland back in front,  saved by Kansas City's Tim Melia.

The Timbers will host the Chicago Fire at 7:30 PM Pacific Time back home in Portland on Wednesday night, to be broadcast over the Portland Timbers television network (via KPDX-TV, Portland-Vancouver).

Timbers Fall At Home To SKC

At Portland, Oregon:

Dom Dwyer scored the only goal of the match in the 53rd minute on Saturday as Sporting Kansas City knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 on the road in Major League Soccer action.

The Timbers will do their best to beck up for their first Cascadia Cup contest of the year when they host the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (Timbers' broadcast television network via KPTV, Portland).

Timbers Erupt In Second Half, Stiff Sporting KC

At Portland, Oregon:

In a Sunday Major League Soccer contest that saw both clubs reduced to ten men each due to first-half red-card ejections (Portland's Diego Valeri [12'], Kansas City's Soni Mustiva [39']), Diego Valeri (65'), Jack Jewsbury (87'), and Fanendo Adi (90'+2) each scored a goal while goalkeeper Jake Gleeson pitched a shutout as the Portland Timbers smothered visiting Sporting Kansas City 3-0.

The Timbers will travel to Washington for a Saturday evening contest against DC United at 4:00 PM Pacific Time (Timbers' broadcast television network via KPDX, Portland-Vancouver).

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Jacob Peterson scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute on Sunday as Sporting Kansas City defeated the visiting Portland Timbers 1-0 in Major League Soccer action.

The Timbers will play their opening CONCACAF Champions League group-stage match this coming Wednesday night against CD Dragon from El Salvador at home at 7:00 PM Pacific Time (Galavision).

Portland will host Sporting KC in their next MLS contest next Sunday at 1:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN).

SKC Knock Off Timbers On Road; Portland Falls Out Of Playoff Places

At Portland, Oregon:

Krisztian Nemeth scored the only goal of the match in the 83rd minute on Saturday as Sporting Kansas City knocked off the Portland Timbers 1-0 on the road in Major League Soccer play.

Goalkeeper Tim Melia made six saves to preserve both the victory and the shutout.

The defeat, coupled with San Jose's 1-1 home deadlock with Vancouver, dropped the Timbers to a tie for the six and final Western Conference playoff berth (with the Timbers and Earthquakes level on points and wins, San Jose has the superior goal differential).  Portland has three regular-season games remaining, San Jose has two.

The Timbers next game will be on Wednesday October 14 at Sandy, Utah against Real Salt Lake at 6:30 PM Pacific Time (ROOT Sports Northwest).

Timbers And SKC Battle To Rose City Scoreless Stalemate

At Portland, Oregon:

In an important Major League Soccer Wednesday night match, Sporting Kansas City and the home-standing Portland Timbers battled to a 0-0 deadlock.  The Timbers' Adam Kwarasey (his 12th, which tops MLS) and SKC's Tim Melia (who had seven saves) each pitched a shutout.

The Timbers' next game will be home on Sunday, September 20 against the New York Red Bulls at 2:00 PM Pacific Time (ESPN 2).

Sporting KC Avenge Open Cup Defeat, Blank Timbers In Portland

At Portland, Oregon:

Lawrence Olum scored the only goal of the match in the 24th minute on Friday as Sporting Kansas City bounced back from their 3-1 US Open Cup home defeat on Tuesday with a 1-0 road victory over the Portland Timbers.

The Timbers will next visit the HubStub Center in Carson, California for a league match against the Los Angeles Galaxy next Friday night at 8:00 PM Pacific Time (NBC Sports Network).

OOPS! The Timbers' Game Is Tonight!

The Portland Timbers will resume Major League Soccer play on Friday night (rather than Saturday night) when they host Sporting Kansas City at Providence Park at 8:00 PM Pacific Time.  It will be telecast over the Timbers' television broadcast network.

Gaston Scores Twice As Timbers Knock Off SKC On Road To Get Crack At Sounders In US Open Cup Quarterfinals

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Gaston Fernandez scored twice (30', 68') on Tuesday night as the Portland Timbers knocked off Sporting Kansas City 3-1 on the road in the fifth round of the US Open Cup.

Will Johnson successfully converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute to add to the Timbers' coffers.

The Timbers will take on the Seattle Sounders on July 9 at Tukwila, Washington in the tournament's quarterfinal round.

In the interim, Portland's next Major League Soccer contest will be at home this Saturday night against Sporting Kansas City (8:00 PM Pacific Time, ROOT Sports Northwest).

AURELIEN COLLIN SCORES REGULATION EQUALIZER THEN CONVERTS GAME-WINNING SPOT KICK AS SKC TOP RSL IN PK MARATHON FOR FIRST MLS CUP TITLE SINCE 2000


At Kansas City, Kansas:

After a contest that was deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation time, followed by 30 scoreless overtime minutes, Claudio Bieler, Paulo Magamura, Benny Feilhaber, Seth Sinovic, C.J. Sapong, Chance Myers, and, with the game winner, Aurelien Collin (who scored the game-tying goal in the 76th minute and was named game Most Valuable Player) all converted their spot kicks as  Sporting Kansas City won their first Major League Soccer championship since 2000 by winning the longest penalty-kick shootout in league history, 7-6 in ten rounds over visiting Real Salt Lake on Saturday.  Lovel Powell had a chance to tie the shootout and force an eleventh round, but his shot bounced off the crossbar.

Timbers Battle Back, Grab Rare Road Win

At Kansas City, Kansas:

Ryan Johnson (24'), Darlington Nagbe (33'), and Rodney Wallace (58') each delivered a goal on Saturday night as the Portland Timbers stretched their Major League Soccer unbeaten streak to six games as they defeated Sporting Kansas City 3-2 for only their fourth road victory in 38 such contests.  The Timbers' win spoiled the two-goal performance from SKC's Chance Myers (1', 29').
