At Washington:
A two-run fifth-inning double from Addison Russell was a key part of a four-run inning as the Chicago Cubs came from behind, then held off the Washington Nationals 9-8 on the road in Thursday's fifth and deciding game of a National League divisional playoff series, which the Cubs won three games to two.
The Cubs will open their third successive National League Championship Series, against the Los Angeles Dodgers (a rematch of last year's title series which Chicago won), which opens this coming Saturday in the City of Angels.
