At Portland, Oregon:
Kevin Molino scored twice (51', 78') and Luis Amarilla once (76') as Minnesota United upended the home-standing Portland Timbers 3-1 in Sunday's Major League Soccer regular-season opener for both clubs.
Diego Valeri converted a penalty kick in the 56th minute for the lone Portland score.
The Timbers will have their first encounter with expansionist Nashville SC at home next Sunday at 4:00 PM Pacific Time on ESPN.
