Joe Garagiola, who was a catcher on the St. Louis Cardinals' 1946 World Series championship team, but then went on to become best remembered as long-time, legendary, and iconic Major League Baseball broadcaster, passed away on Wednesday at age 90.
For some 30 years, Joe was the voice of NBC's Game of the Week Saturday afternoon telecasts, during that period of time, he was at first a play-by-play man, teamed up with ex-New York Yankee Tony Kubek, then, in the 1980s, after the arrival of Vin Scully, became the color man.
He was also a regular on that network's Today show and even hosted a handful of game shows during the 1970s, such as Joe Garagiola's Memory Game and the original version of Sale of the Century.
