At Washington:
Stephen Strasburg struck out 12 batters in the course of a strong seven-inning start while Howie Kendrick doubled three times and batted in three more runs on Monday as the Washington Nationals roasted the visiting St. Louis Cardinals 8-1 in game three of the National League Championship Series.
The Nationals, who lead the series three games to none, can wrap up their first-ever pennant and World Series appearances by finishing off the Cardinals in the Nation's Capital on Tuesday.
It would mark the first Fall Classic appearance by a Major League Baseball club from Washington since the old American League Senators lost the 1933 World Series. The former Montreal Expos moved to Washington prior to the 2005 season.
