At Portland, Oregon:
In Wednesday Major League Soccer play, Brian Fernandez scored twice (21', 88') and Jorge Moreira once (11') as the Portland Timbers held off the visiting Chicago Fire 3-2 to climb up to seventh place in the Western Conference standings with ten regular-season games remaining.
Nemanja Nikolic (74') and C.J. Sapong (90'+2) each scored once for the Fire, who were reduced to ten men in the 30th minute as Aleksander Katai was ejected via a red card.
Next up for the Timbers, their ten-game homestand will continue on Sunday night as they host Atlanta United in a rematch of last year's MLS Cup Final (7:00 PM Pacific Time, FS1).
