Roy Halliday, the former Major League Baseball pitcher who threw a playoff no-hitter for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2010 against the Cincinnati Reds (the only post-season no hitter other than Don Larsen's World Series perfect game in 1956), and who won the Cy Young Award in both leagues, passed away on Tuesday, a result of a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico at age 40.
Mr. Halliday, an eight time All-Star, won the Cy Young Award twice, once in the American League (in 2003 with the Toronto Blues Jays, where he spent the first 12 years of his 16 year Major League career), and once in the National League (in 2010 with the Phillies, where he spent four years).
Roy had a record of 203 wins against 105 defeats with a career earned run average of 3.38.
