NCAA Southwest: 'Noles, Notre Dame, Jayhawks, Purdue, Ilini, VCU Advance To Round of 32

Six games in the Southwest Region of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament were contested on Friday.


At Chicago:


In the first of four games at the United Center, Derwin Kitchen scored 15 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and added 3 assists as #10 Florida State won their first tournament game since 1998, beating #7 Texas A & M 57-50.


Ben Hansbrough scored 15 points while Tim Abromaitis added 14, while Carleton Scott pulled down 14 rebounds as #2 Notre Dame downed #15 Akron 69-56.


E'Twaun Moore scored 19 points while JuJuan Johnson added 16 (to go with his 16 rebounds) as #3 Purdue dominated #14 St. Peter's 65-43.


In the final game, Brandon Rozzell scored 26 points, leading four players in double figures (Joey Rodriguez with 17 and Bradford Burgess and Jamie Skeen with 12 apiece) as #11 Virginia Commonwealth took care of #6 Georgetown 74-56.


At Tulsa, Oklahoma:


In the first of two Southwest region games played at the BOK Center, Markus Morris scored 16 points and added 9 rebounds while his brother Markieff added 15 as #1 Kansas, who led by four at halftime, wore down #16 Boston University in the second half and took care of the Terriers 72-53.


In the nightcap, #9 Illinois dominated #8 UNLV in the first half en route to a 73-62 win.  Mike Davis scored 22 points and grabbed 9 rebounds for the Fighting Ilini.
