At Raleigh, North Carolina:
In the lone Saturday Midwest Regional contest played at the PNC Arena, Malcolm Brogdon scored 22 points as the top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers (28-7) downed the ninth-seeded Butler Bulldogs (22-11) 77-69.
Andrew Chrabascz paced the Bulldogs with 25 points.
Two games were contested at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
In the opener, Georges Niang scored 28 points as the fourth-seeded Iowa State Cyclones (23-11) proved too much for Arkansas-Little Rock (30-5) 78-61.

Lee Andrews, the leader and lead singer of the 1950s R&B doo-wop vocal group, Lee Andrews and the Hearts, passed away on Wednesday at age 79.
The Philadelphia-based group is best remembered for a handful of hit recordings from the late 1950's, such as "Long, Lonely Night" (1957; hit #45 on the Pop charts and #11 in Rhythm and Blues), "Teardrops" (1957-58; #20 Pop, #4 R&B), and "Try the Impossible" (1958; #33 Pop).

The Oregon Ducks by themselves scored 91 points in their fist-beating of Holy Cross in Spokane, more than the total the Badgers and Panthers scored combined (90).
In the nightcap, James Farr scored 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds as the #2-seeded Xavier Musketeers (28-5) manhandled the #15-seeded Weber State Wildcats (26-9) 71-53.

NCAA Tournament: Crusaders Knock Off Jags To Get Crack At Ducks; Wolverines Top Golden Hurricane And Will Battle Irish In Brooklyn
The "First Four" round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament concluded on Wednesday with two games contested at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
In the opener, Robert Champion scored 19 points as the Holy Cross Crusaders (15-19), the only team who entered the tourney with a losing record, racked up their first NCAA tournament game victory since 1953 by knocking off the Southern University Jaguars (22-13) 59-55.
The Crusaders will travel up to Spokane, Washington for a West Regional encounter with top-seeded Oregon on Friday.

NCAA Tournament: Easy Wins For Florida Gulf Coast, Shockers; Get Heels, Zona, Next, Respectively
The NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament opened on Tuesday with two games at the University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio.
In the opener, Marc-Eddy Norelia scored 20 pionts and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (21-13) demolished the overmatched Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights (18-15) 96-65.
The Eagles will now head to Raleigh, North Carolina for a Thursday encounter with North Carolina, the East Regional's top seed.

Ducks Climb Up To #5 In Final Pre-NCAA Tourney AP Poll; Up To #4 In Coaches Poll
In the final Associated Press men's college basketball poll to be released prior to Tuesday's opening of the NCAA Tournament, the Oregon Ducks, following their lopsided throttling of Utah in Saturday's Pac-12 Tournament title game which helped set the stage for claiming top seed in the West Regional, climbed up three spots to #5.
The Ducks had an even bigger climb in the USA Today/Coaches poll, climbing five spots to #4.
Despite qualifying for their first NCAA Tournament in 26 years, the Oregon State Beavers received no support in either poll.

Quakes Hold Off Timbers At Home
At San Jose, California:
Chris Wondolowski (30') and Quincy Amerikwa (45'+1) each scored a goal in the first half as the San Jose Earthquakes held off the visiting Portland Timbers 2-1 in Sunday Major League Soccer action.
Jack McInerney scored his first goal in a Timbers' jersey in the 88th minute.
The Timbers will return to the friendly confines of Portland's Providence Park for a match this coming Saturday night against Real Salt Lake at 7:30 PM Pacific Time. The match will be televised over the Timbers' broadcast network with Portland's KPTV as the flagship station.
