Niners Blank Redskins In Rainy Encounter In Suburban Maryland For First 6-0 Start Since 1990

At Landover, Maryland:

Robbie Gould made three field goals (from 28, 22, and 29 yards out) for the only points in the San Francisco 49ers' 9-0 road victory over the Washington Redskins on a rainy and windy Sunday on the outskirts of the Nation's Capital.

The Niners are off to their first 6-0 start since 1990.

I Guess There'll Be No Gruden Bowl

Jay got the ax from the Redskins on Monday.

Ex-Raiders (and Nebraska) head coach Bill Callahan (who ironically replaced Jay's brother Jon as Oakland head coach in 2002 after Jon departed for Tampa Bay----who throttled the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII), currently Washington's offensive line coach,  will take over on an interim basis.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for two touchdowns and ran for another on Sunday as the Washington Redskins (3-2) blew a seventeen-point lead but then went on to hold off the visiting San Francisco 49ers (0-6) 26-24.

Carlos Hyde ran four yards for the game-winning touchdown with 2:59 remaining on Sunday as the San Francisco 49ers (7-4) came from behind to defeat the visiting Washington Redskins (3-8) 17-13 for their third consecutive victory.

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick completed 15 of 24 passed for 235 yards and three touchdowns (two to Anquan Boldin, one to Vernon Davis) on Monday night and Phil Dawson converted both of his field goal attempts (29 and 49 yards) as the San Francisco 49ers (7-4) ended their two-game losing streak with a 27-6 road win over the overmatched Washington Redskins (3-8) in National Football League action.

Six In A Row For The Niners; Frank Gore Sets Franchise Record

Quarterback Alex Smith threw for 200 yards and a touchdown (30 yards to tight end Bruce Miller) while Frank Gore ran for 107 yards to become the first player in franchise history to run for 100 or more yards in five consecutive games as the San Francisco 49ers (6-1) won their sixth straight National Football League game on Sunday (their longest winning streak since 1997), defeating the slumping Washington Redskins (3-5) 19-11 on the road.  The Niners are off to their best start in fourteen years while the Redskins have dropped four games in a row.


David Akers made four field goals for San Francisco, of 52, 34, 45, and 20 yards.

It appears that Dan Snyder has decided to go with strong personalities rather than yes-men to turn around the Deadskins' misbegotten fortunes.

'Skins Skin Coach

At expected Monday, the Washington Redskins canned head coach Jim Zorn after they finished 4-12 in the season concluded on Sunday. Under the ex-Seattle Seahawks quarterback, the Deadskins were 12-20.

They have talked to former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan about their now-vacant head coaching position.
