Big Sky Tournament: Fighting Hawks To Battle Weber State For Crown (And NCAA Berth)

The Big Sky Conference's men's basketball tournament continued on Friday with both semifinal contests played at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

In the opener, Corey Baldwin and Geno Crandall each scored 16 points as the top-seeded North Dakota Fighting Hawks (21-9) held off the fourth-seeded Idaho Vandals (18-13) 69-64.

The Vandals were paced by Victor Sanders with 20 points.

In the nightcap, Jeremy Senglin scored 22 points while Dusty Baker (not the Washington Nationals' manager) added 17 points as the third-seeded Weber State Wildcats (19-12) upended the second-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles (22-11) 80-72, despite a combined 56 points from EWU's Bogdan Bliznyuk (32) and Jacob Wiley (24).

Big Sky Tournament: Fighting Hawks (Who Finish Off Vikings), Vandals, EWU, Weber State Advance To Semifinals

Four games were played in the quarterfinal round of the Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, all to be contested at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

Game #1:

Corey Baldwin scored 18 points and grabbed ten rebounds for his first career double-double as the top-seeded North Dakota Fighting Hawks (20-9) made short work of the eighth-seeded Portland State Vikings (15-16) 95-72.

Game #2:

Arkadiy Mkrtychyan and Victor Sanders each scored 19 points as the fourth-seeded Idaho Vandals (18-12) held off the fifth-seeded Montana Grizzlies (16-16) 81-77.

Walter Wright paced the Griz with 22 points.

Game #3:
Jacob Wiley scored 24 points and grabbed ten rebounds as the second-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles (22-10) defeated the seventh-seeded Sacramento State Hornets (13-18) 89-70.

The Hornets were led in the scoring department by Marcus Graves who delivered a career-high 29 points.

Game #4:

Jeremy Senglin scored 24 points to carry the third-seeded Weber State Wildcats (18-12) to a 90-70 victory over the eleventh-seeded Southern Utah Thunderbirds (6-27).  Zach Braxton and Dusty Baker each added 15 points to the Wildcats' coffers.

Randy Onwuasor paced the T-Birds with 29 points while James McGee added 20.

Big Sky Conference Tournament: Vikings, Hornets, T-Birds (In 3 OT) Advance To Quarterfinals

The Big Sky Conference's men's basketball tournament opened on Tuesday with three first-round games, all played at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

Game #1:

Deontae North scored 25 points and came away with three steals as the eighth-seeded Portland State Vikings (15-15) defeated the ninth-seeded Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (9-23) 80-67.

Game #2:

Nick Hornsby and Marcus Graves each scored 18 points as the seventh-seeded Sacramento State Hornets (13-17) downed the tenth-seeded Idaho State Bengals (5-26) 91-76.  Ethan Telfair scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the Bengals.

Game #3:

Randy Onwuasor scored a career-best and tournament record 43 points as the eleventh-seeded Southern Utah Thunderbirds (6-26), with five players scoring in double figures, knocked off the sixth-seeded Montana State Bobcats (16-16) 108-105 in a triple-overtime thriller.  Tyler Hall topped the Bobcats with 33 points (while grabbing 12 rebounds) while DeVonte Klines added 25 points to the Montana State coffers.
