NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Sweet Sixteen action continued with the South Regional semifinals on Friday with both games contested at NRG Stadium in Houston.
In the opener, an 18-point, nine-rebound performance from Przemek Karnowski propelled the second-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (35-2) into the Elite Eight for the first time since 1999 with their 74-62 victory over the UCLA Bruins (22-14).
In the nightcap, the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils (32-4) , with Justise Winslow scoring 21 points and grabbing ten rebounds, outlasted the fifth-seeded Utah Runnin' Utes (26-9) 63-57.
Duke and Gonzaga will battle in Houston on Sunday for the South Regional title and a berth in the Final Four.

NCAA South: Blue Devils, Zags Advance To Sweet Sixteen
On the final day of NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament third-round play, two games were contested in the South Region on Sunday.
At Charlotte, North Carolina:
Jahlil Okafor scored 26 points as the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils (31-4), who shot 55% from the field, dominated the eighth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs (27-9) 68-49.
At Seattle:
Kyle Wiltjer scored 24 points while Domantas Sarbonis added 18 (to go with his nine rebounds) as the second-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs (34-2) defeated the seventh-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes (22-12) 87-68, despite 20 points from Jared Uthoff (who had eight rebounds) and 19 from Aaron White for the Hawkeyes.

NCAA South: Bruins, Utes Advance To Sweet Sixteen
The third round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament commenced on Saturday with eight games, two of them in the South Region.
At Louisville, Kentucky:
Tony Parker scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds while Bryce Alford added 22 as the #11-seeded UCLA Bruins (22-13), with all five starters scoring in double-digits, became the first team to reach the Sweet Sixteen with a 92-75 win over #14-seeded Alabama-Birmingham (20-16). Robert Brown topped the Blazers with 25 points.
At Portland, Oregon:
Brandon Taylor, one of six players who scored in double-figures, tallied 14 points as the #5-seeded Utah Runnin' Utes (26-8) defeated the #4-seeded Georgetown Hoyas (22-11) 75-64 and gained their first Sweet Sixteen appearance since 2005.

Second-round play in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's South Region concluded with four games played on Friday.
At Charlotte, North Carolina:
Quinn Cook scored 22 points and Jahili Okafor added 21 as the top-seeded Duke Blue Devils (30-4) overpowered #16-seeded Robert Morris (20-15) 85-56 despite 23 points apiece from the Colonials' Marcquise Reed and Rodney Pryor.
J.J. O'Brien scored 18 points while Dwayne Polee II added 15 (on five three-pointers) as the eighth-seeded San Diego State Aztecs (27-8) defeated the ninth-seeded St. John's Red Storm (21-12) 76-64 despite 21 points and 10 rebounds from the Red Storm's Sir'Dominic Pointer.

NCAA South: UAB Blazers Knock Off Cyclones; Controversial Goaltending Call Lifts Bruins Past Mustangs; Utes Hold Off Lumberjacks; Hoyas Too Much For EWU

At Louisville, Kentucky:
In the opener, Robert Brown scored 21 points while William Lee added 14 (to go with his 12 rebounds) including his team's last four points as the fourteenth-seeded UAB Blazers (20-15) knocked off the third-seeded Iowa State Cyclones (25-9) 60-59.
Bryce Alford, who scored 27 points, made four three-pointers in the final 3:40, including the last one on a rare goaltending call with 13 seconds left as the #11-seeded UCLA Bruins (21-13) defeated the #6-seeded Southern Methodist Mustangs (27-7) 60-59, overcoming a 19-0 Mustangs run in the second half, not to mention 24 points from SMU's Nic Moore.
At Portland, Oregon:
Jakob Poeltl scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds as the fifth-seeded Utah Runnin' Utes (25-8) outlasted the #12-seeded Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (29-5) 57-50.
D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 25 points as the #4-seeded Georgetown Hoyas (22-10) raced to a 23-point second-half lead before coasting to a 84-74 victory over the #13-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles (26-9), despite 27 points from the nation's leading scorer, the Eagles' Tyler Harvey.
