GRIZZLIES OVERPOWER WILDCATS IN SECOND HALF FOR BIG SKY TOURNEY CROWN AND NCAA BERTH

At Missoula, Montana:


Kareem Jamar and Mathias Ward each scored 23 points as the Montana Grizzlies (25-6) overcame a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Weber State Wildcats (24-6) 54-30 in the second half en route to capturing the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament championship game 85-66 on Wednesday.   The Grizzlies will make their ninth appearance in the NCAA tournament.  The Wildcats lost by 19 points despite a 29 point, 10 rebound performance from Damian Lillard.

Big Sky Tournament: Wildcats Finish Off Vikings; Weber State To Get Shot At Griz For Title

Both contests in the semifinal round of the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament took place at Missoula, Montana on Tuesday.


In the opener, Damian Lillard scored 22 points as the Weber State Wildcats (24-5) went on an 11-1 run in the final 4:59 minutes in coming from behind to upend the Portland State Vikings (17-14) 69-63.


In the nightcap, with Mathias Ward and Kareem Jamar each scoring 18 points (and the latter grabbing 13 rebounds), the top-seeded Montana Grizzlies (24-6) downed the fourth-seeded Eastern Washington Eagles (15-17) 74-66.


Montana will take on Weber State for the title and the Big Sky's automatic NCAA Tournament invitation on Wednesday night in Missoula.

Big Sky Tournament: Eagles, Vikings Open With Wins At Home

The Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament got under way with two games played on Saturday.


At Cheney, Washington:


Cliff Colimon scored 22 points while Laron Griffin added 21 (while grabbing 11 rebounds) as the Eastern Washington Eagles (15-16) defeated the visiting Idaho State Bengals (9-21) 81-75 despite 28 points from the visitors' Kenny McGowan.  The Eagles will take on top-seeded Montana on Tuesday.


At Portland, Oregon:


Chehales Tapscott scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the third-seeded Portland State Vikings (17-13) dominated the visiting sixth-seeded Montana State Bobcats (12-17) 75-53.  The Vikings will take on second-seeded Weber State on Tuesday.
