MLB Playoffs (American League Divisional Playoff Series): Tigers Top Athletics To Force Game Five; Red Sox Finish Off Rays, Advance To ALCS

Both American League divisional playoff series continued on Tuesday.

At Detroit:

Pitcher Max Scherzer pitched out of a bases-loaded-with-nobody-out jam in the top half of the eighth inning (and got the win) while the Detroit Tigers scored twice in the seventh (on Victor Martinez's disputed home run) and three times in the eighth as they defeated the visiting Oakland Athletics 8-6 to deadlock their divisional playoff series at two games apiece, with the fifth and deciding game to be played in Oakland on Thursday.

At St. Petersburg, Florida:

Shane Victorino's single in the seventh inning broke a 2-2 tie and Craig Breslow came up huge out of the bullpen as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 on the road and won their divisional playoff series three games to one.  The Red Sox will open their first American League Championship Series since 2008 at home on Saturday against the winner of Thursday's divisional playoff series decider between Detroit and Oakland.
